Semester 2 Week 7

This week began my journey on the armor rigging process. The armor was finally to a point where I could begin attaching it to the rig. So far I've done a mix of parent constraints and painted weights depending on the piece. Some are easy like the gauntlets, all they need is a parent constraint to the forearm joint and thats it. However, the chest plate is the complete opposite. George moves so much in his animation that if the chest plate is parented to the chest joint, it will penetrate his body constantly. Therefore it is going to be skinned to the rig instead. His hip plates have also been causing me some problems. There was talk of potentially simulating them but I think that's the wrong way to go at this point. So far I've been doing a mix of parenting and corrective blend shapes if they clip.

Speaking of blend shapes, I also started work on George's facial blend shapes. I'm trying to anticipate all the expressions we need him to make. I'm not sure if I'll be doing any facial animation but I am making the blend shapes in accordance of what I'd like to have at my disposal and hopefully that applies to everyone else as well.
